Retirement Has Arrived

Congratulations to the man in my life for his achievement of near 40 years at Gordon Food Service coming to a close.Just one month after our marriage took place,August 7,1970,his job at Gordon Food Service began. He had been working at JC Pennys in Muskegon, only bringing home enough for gas in the car and enough to help us scrape by.He carried into our marriage,a shoebox of old very past due bills, including a warning of a repo bill of 500.00 for his 1965 Buick Skylark Convertible. The decision was made to try to replace his Pennys job with a better paying job closer to home that would help keep our one car and provide a better survival for the two of us.The rest is history. These last few years he has spent working in the deep freeze which has ended up wearing on him and his body.He had begun talking of retirement a couple of years ago but accepted sadly to continue on alittle longer for my sake.
About six or seven months ago,Gordon's decided to offer a early buyout for those 50 years old and above.Of course Chuck wanted to immediately get his name on that list as soon as he could. Was I ectastic about it?Not at all.Its a scary thought to suddenly be without a weekly paycheck and a monthly bonus. With being guardians of RuthAnn,our granddaughter, she has health problems which needs good insurance for.She has Medicade and Blue cross Blue shield through Gordon's for 18 months more and then its only Medicade.Chuck will be 64 in July alittle short of Medicare at 65.Its time to search for inexpensive but decent insurance for both of us.Me alittle longer since I am 4 years younger then Chuck .Our faith and trust is in our awsome God to keep us in his care and His awsome strength for the journey.Without Christ and his mighty love our hope is lost in a lost world. Its at times like this that will draw us even closer to Him.I love our all powerful and loving God and will abide in Him.Do you see Chuck's huge smile? He is very happy to finally be through with his leaving for work at 5:30 am and returning home anywhere from 4:00 on.It is nice to have him home with us free to come and go when we would like.Scary yes but I am thoughly enjoying his being around for a trip to get a cup of coffee,a visit to a friend, his enjoying his workout with his friend Dan,ect. Retirement has begun very well.I am excited for Chuck and his excitement for finally being a free man.I love you Chuck . Congratulations on your journey into the new chapter in your life. May our new journey be a reconnecting of our life togeather as man and wife.
